I suppose that this seems fortuitous to some people, but there were times when this presented serious complications. When I first started architecture school as a freshman in college, I didn’t have the focus or maturity I needed to tackle the curriculum and I ended up having a serious identity crisis when I was 19 years old. For the first time in my life, I did really well in school. I've wanted to be an architect since I was a kid, and I've been doing it … I was terrible at it. I started in architecture merely for survival. I notice patterns and behavior, I look for those things and I don’t think I could switch it off … even if I wasn’t an architect. I had more time than everyone else. That somehow, maybe, I didn’t belong here …. It is so rewarding that I am able to create tangible, functional, visible artwork that not only improves the surroundings visibly, but life experiences as well. Several years ago, I took a Project Manager position with the City of Portland, which is where I work now.
