Joan and Jane Boyd were the first pair to become Wrigley Double mint Twins, starring in commercials for four years straight. The first Doublemint Twins appeared in 1960. The original Doublemint Twins, in fact, were Joan and Jayne Knoerzer. The original "Doublemint Twins" were Jayne and Joan Boyd of Hammond, Indiana, who appeared in advertisements for Doublemint until Joan became pregnant in 1963. The company featured various sets of Doublemint Twins in campaigns dating back to the 1930s. Their stint as the iconic duo began way back in 1959. A pair of twins promoted the gum as recent as 2005. Chicago Business writes: “While the pair made a point of dressing differently and used different stage names, the Doublemint gig typecast them as twins. Many sets of twins … When the Doublemint commercials stopped airing in 1995, the relationship between Linda and Lisa took a very dark turn. And the advertising agency that has created most of the adverts over the decades is Energy BBDO. … Professional singers, the twins had no plans to become actresses and models until they signed their contract with Philip K. Wrigley in 1959. Often people will say, 'Ah, you were blonde, you were on bicycles," says Terrie Frankel, one of the famous DoubleMint Twins in the commercials from the '70s and '80s.
